The Healing Power of Infused Oils

The Power of Infused Oils

At Elderberry Etc., everything we create is rooted in the belief that healing should be gentle, intentional, and grounded in nature. One of the most important — and often overlooked — aspects of our process is how we infuse our oils. This isn’t just a fancy step or a buzzword. It’s a traditional, time-honored method that makes all the difference in how our remedies support your body.

What Does It Mean to Infuse Oils?

Infusing oils is the process of slowly steeping herbs in a carrier oil over a period of time — often weeks. This allows the oil to absorb the medicinal properties of the herbs in a way that’s both potent and gentle. Unlike essential oils, which are highly concentrated and can sometimes irritate sensitive skin, infused oils are much more balanced and soothing.

We use oils like organic coconut oil, olive oil, or castor oil, and infuse them with healing plants like:

  • Comfrey – known to support tissue repair and speed healing

  • Calendula – soothing for irritated or inflamed skin

  • Arnica – helps reduce bruising, swelling, and pain

  • Dandelion – gently detoxifying and anti-inflammatory

Each batch is slow-made, with herbs either sun-infused over time or gently warmed at low temperatures to preserve their properties. There are no shortcuts — and we wouldn’t want it any other way.

Why We Infuse (Instead of Just Mixing)

It’s easy to throw herbs and oils together and call it a balm. But when oils are truly infused, the oil becomes a carrier of the herb’s healing benefits — not just a base. The result is a product that doesn’t just sit on the surface of your skin, but one that penetrates, nourishes, and supports healing from the inside out.

That’s especially important for the kinds of issues our customers come to us for: dry or cracked skin, sore muscles, minor wounds, inflammation, and joint pain. Infused oils work in harmony with the body, delivering gentle and effective relief.

Infused With More Than Herbs

This process is about more than just combining ingredients. It’s about intention. When we infuse our oils, we do so with care — respecting the plants, the process, and the people who will use them. Every jar we send out carries that love, and that’s something you can feel when you use it.

So the next time you apply one of our salves or balms, know that what you’re putting on your skin took weeks to create, and was made with patience, purpose, and the wisdom of plants.
